Ok. I usually stay away from this kind of thing, for a lot of reasons. But this time I have to speak out in defense of a very fine product that does n-o-t deserve a reputation based on a single 1 star review. For one thing: this is a machine, a machine that you gorge with paper, paper of various weights and fibers. The one thing conspicuously absent from your slam is whether you maintained it like the fine machine it is; like a fine Mustang or a Porsche, it takes oil. That's why EcoLife, which incidentally also deserves credit for being a "green" environment-conscious company, not only includes a dust cover but a pack of the lubrication sleeves as well (hint, hint). Also, this is n-o-t a commercial shredder - nor is it presented as one. Read it: it says "Under Desk"-! And in that capacity, it is the finest shredder we have ever had the pleasure of using. If you maintain it, don't insist on incessantly pushing it to the redline, and use it as an office "under desk" shredder, you will be delighted. And by the way, it utterly destroys what it shreds, into tiny pieces of `confetti', which we have actually used as a great recycled packing material; it is tough, gets into every nook and cranny, and protects well (you may want to let the folks on the receiving end know they should open whatever you shipped in an area easy to clean - vac, sweep - up, because it will be all over the place. Check for yourselves people, reach your own conclusions: if you look elsewhere you will find most places have SOLD OUT of this unit (does that sound like a 1 star "stay away from..." product-?!). I found it available at CostCo where it has about a 4.3 star rating with 94 reviews - not a 1 star from 1 review. Yes, it has some there as well; every production line is going to turn out a `lemon' or ill-fitting piece now and then; and the question again would be did any of these naysayers properly maintain? And yes, it does say "commercial-grade" motor in the specs. So maybe this is splitting hairs or syntax; but what it is not is represented as a commercial shredder. It is represented as a strong, UNDER DESK office/small business unit, and in that capacity it is hands-down the finest we have ever used. In fact, we just got in a second unit. And "security"? Even Humpty Dumpty would blush at the concept of ever putting back together the documents that find their way through this unit. Finally, it is absolutely a waste space-saver as the tiny shreds take what is probably a fraction of the volume of a typical cross-cut or similar shredder (so you will make far fewer trips to the waste bin). Yes, we enthusiastically recommend you try this unit if your expectations are in line. An absolutely superb product for personal use or small office/business as mentioned. Sorry - cannot comment on the alleged poor product support; have never had to call. Last, if either of our units disappoints, I will not hesitate to revisit this review.
