After calling Amazon and finding out there is no replacement for a shattered screen (my only choice was to purchase a whole new unit), I took a chance on fixing it myself and I purchased this product from China. I was less than confident, but the decision was made out of sheer disgust; I was pissed off.

The product arrived in 18 days, and was in good condition. It was the correct part for my Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Glass replacement with digitizer; Note the plastic shell frame is not included.

It works good, now that I have it back together. It took me about 2 minutes to open the kindle, and about 4-5 hours to remove the shattered glass from the plastic frame; due to the adhesive. It is a messy job.

There are good instructional videos online, but my kindle did not seem to match any of the videos I was watching. Most videos show taking the back plate off and having to unscrew and dismantle many parts before getting to the screen. Mine was actually easier to replace than the video. Once open, I disconnected two cables and the screen half of the kindle was removed. I removed the shattered glass from the frame, snapped the new glass into the frame (without glue), reattached the cables, and snapped the kindle back together. Note: the cable connections have a plastic flap which locks the cable in place, it took me a bit to figure this out.

I bought my kindle in September 2013, I'm not sure how many versions there are, but mine was quite simple to fix once the glass was removed.
