I read reviews for several security camera systems before deciding on this one. There were no reviews on this particular one,but I had looked into the Zmodo systems,and this one had everything that I wanted at a good price,plus the prime shipping,so I took a chance on this one. Overall I am very pleased,even though the cameras are not actually Sony brand.From what I understand,they are Zmodo cameras with a Sony chip in them,but they work fine,and that is all that matters to me.I have read many negative reviews about most all of the camera systems,including the big name brands,but I really think that most of that is due to people having unrealistic expectations.They are security cameras people,your not going to get a stunning HD experience. I'm sure there are cameras out there that have a clearer picture than these,but they are going to cost alot more! Considering that you are getting eight cameras and a 1 terabyte DVR,you really can't beat these for the price. The picture you get during the day is actually quite good,the night vision is a bit dark if there are no lights around,but it does the job. The only real gripe I have is that the wires that go to the cameras are easily tangled,and that makes for some aggravation when running them,but even that isn't a real big deal. All in all,it's a great system for people like me who want security,without breaking the bank.

Took it on the road couple times. It's very durable case.

One negative point or inconvenience is that it's super difficult to put shipping labels on the case. The case has some kind of chemical substance applied to the outer surface thus any packing tape would not stay with the case. Even the super sticky FedEx envelope or pouch is easily peel off. I found a small narrow concave spot to put the label with velcro and super sticky tape, and it's still comes off with a lift of a finger.

I ended up putting a baggage tag type thing by the lock hole. Fortunately, no one tried to peel off or was rubbed against another to lose the shipping label. Anyways, it drove everyone in the office nuts trying figure out and overcome the anti-adhesive material applied to the case. I would recommend the purchase but be aware of what I said of losing sleep over losing shipping label.

Orion 53083 StarShoot G3 Deep Space Monochrome Imaging Camera Review

The Starshoot G3 has been working well for me.
If you want to hear the reasons I'm only giving it 4 stars: well, it's not perfect. The chip is a bit small (752 x 580, if memory serves), but with some fiddling, it has worked for most of what I've wanted to image. Taking great pictures of galaxies (which I'd never been able to do before) has been easy.
The included software could be a little better, but I've found work-around for everything. (sometimes it will crash if I mistakenly hit a button while it is busy with image acquisition; the histogram feature doesn't want to let me type numbers into it, so I have to settle for the imprecise sliders; etc.)
The number of hot/stuck pixels seems acceptable to me (maybe 20 out of the 400,000+- pixels on the CCD chip).
Light sensitivity seems very good to me.
Setup was so easy that I felt like I must have missed something! (install the software, put it in the end of the telescope, plug in the cables, take some time to focus, then start taking pictures)

Overall, I'm having a great time and taking some beautiful images with the camera.
In my opinion, there ARE better cameras out there, but they also cost 5 to 10 times as much! For me, that's just too much to pay (right now) for very minor improvements in quality. Someday paying 4 times as much for a chip 4 times as big will, I'm sure, appeal to me. When I DO buy it, I'll being looking at Orion again ALL THE WAY!

QuickBooks for Mac 2012 [OLD VERSION] Review

I just upgraded to QB 2011 for Mac in January...because I was forced to. After working on my previous 2007 version a few times in Snow Leopard, I started getting dialogue boxes saying I needed to register my QB, which I ignored because it was already registered. What the dialogue box did not say was that all of my data would begin corrupting after a set number of openings. OK. I didn't like it. I felt connived as did an overwhelming # of reviewers when 2011 came out.

I've rationalized Intuit's strategy and moved on...until now. Less than 10 months later, no free upgrade, not even a moderately priced upgrade. No, Intuit wants another $200 in less than a year for a few more goodies, which, by the way, would be nice improvements.

I like the program! It functions well! I hate this company! BTW, are the posts prior to mine real? They sound more like company generated commercials than real customers. I'm willing to be wrong on this.

I don't doubt this version is actually really good. But I resent being herded into constantly shelling out full price...in less than a year!

5 stars for the product minus 2 stars for economic ethics.

Sonax WB-1609 Washington 59-Inch Wood Veneer TV/Component Bench Review

The packaging was very well done, with sturdy corner protectors along all four long edges of the box and the internal styrofoam keeping all the pieces separated and well protected. The individual pieces arrived intact and unscratched. The hardware packages contained all necessary parts and were well labeled.

The appearance of the unit when assembled looks more like true hardwood furniture than MDF with laminate so they've done an excellent job with relatively low cost materials. The doors and drawers all work well without sticking or other issues.

Assembly is fairly time consuming, budget between 90 minutes and two hours but if you follow the directions you should have no problems. The only thing I'd caution is when you install the drawers for the first time make sure they go into the guides correctly. I was in a hurry and missed that at first and was concerned that the unit was defective before realizing that it was my mistake.

The English instructions were clear without the translation errors often seen.

Overall I would rate this as a very good value for the cost and I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I've just had this system a short time and I can't determine if I like it or not. True, it's very easy to set up but configuring the software to view online could be a bit tedious if you are not a techie. You will have to deal with configuring your router/modem as well, to get the right settings. So be prepared for that. But what is most shocking is that e-mail alerts does not work. After days of struggling to get this to work and thinking that I must be doing something wrong, I decided to contact SVAT customer service. I received a call from one of their support guys who told me point blank that the e-mail function does not work. In his words "when they tested it in China it worked, but after they were shipped to the US that function never worked". So I asked about a firmware update, I was told none was forthcoming. The was a big disappointment for me because I wanted to be alerted. My blackberry phone is not compatible with the unit, so I can't view my cameras from my phone. But in the interest of full disclosure, I was relatively happy with it until I learnt that email alerts does not work. They need to make people aware of this. I wonder how many other SVAT models are like this.
