Bifrost Digital Analog Convertor Review

I recently upgraded my tube system with the Bifrost DAC. There was a distinct improvement in sound quality and overall resolution. My source is a Sonos ZP90 playing FLAC files that I personally ripped from my CD collection to guarantee the highest quality source. I then feed that through the Bifrost and then on through a completely refurbished and modified Dynaco PAS3X tube preamp, which then feeds refurbished vintage Magnavox tube amplifiers in a bi-amped configuration.
Inclusion of the Bifrost DAC gave a very noticable improvement in the "depth" of the sound. While not necessarily hitting any higher or lower frequencies than before, the resolution at which the system played these frequencies is much improved. Also, detail is much more present. In older jazz recordings, I can hear the various and subtle noises the musicians made while they were on stage - instruments bumping the mic stand, musicians shuffling around, etc. Contrary to detracting from the music, it makes for a more realistic sound stage.
Build quality of this unit is outstanding. Part of my selection choice was the fact that it was made in the USA. Upon arrival, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the materials used and the "heft" of the unit. The warranty from the manufacturer is outstanding, and the ability to upgrade the DAC's interface in the future is a great feature. I opted for the non-USB version, since the Sonos supports both SPDIF and Coaxial digital inputs.
Despite the tongue-in-cheek name, the Schiit Bifrost seems to be an excellent product and proof that made-in-the-USA does not have to mean expensive.
