Let me first start by saying that I went on a month long quest for a Network Attached Storage device. Reading reviews (which, unfortunately, are all over the place) and finally settling on the Seagate Home cloud. End result, it was slower than I could ever imagine. It was going to take 5 days to copy from USB to the drive. Luckily, I bought it at Costco so the return was a non issue.

Next, I tried out the iOmega 2TB home cloud thingy. This case is beautiful, copied faaaasssttt, and had the internal Bittorrent downloads (but the interface is crap compared to the Buffalo). I was so happy. HOWEVER...it does not function with netbooks running Win 7 Starter. Not at all good be cause this is over 66% of our laptops. I diagnosed this after weeks of working with the iOmega service people (who are fantastic, by the way, though they couldn't figure this one out).

Finally, I found the Buffalo LinkStation 2TB. Right out of the box, it worked. This was a shock to me, previous experience lowered my expectations. But I mean, it really worked! The Bittorrent kicks ass, it has the standard Utorrent interface right there on the NAS. You start the download and it runs on the NAS. You login and check the progress of the download. Exactly what you would want (I'm contrasting this with iOmega, where you just drop the torrent into a folder and eventually the downloaded file pops up in a folder with no notice or way to track progress).

The streaming is great, we've streamed two HD programs on the Xbox360 and my netbook at the same time with no hitch, stutter or lag. I've transferred files, downloaded torrents, streamed audio while streaming HD video to the 360.

The iTunes server is flawless. It just appears in your iTunes and you start streaming away.

Internet access I haven't really tried, I know you can connect with Android (I have the app), iPhone etc.

I really liked the iOmega. The case is beautiful, the software is slightly more intuitive, but the Torrent interface is garbage compared with the Buffalo.

The Buffalo is exactly what you are looking for. It ended my search.
